Every January something happens that is hard to believe, unless you have seen it! According to the Arizona Highway Department, as many as 750,000 to 1,000,000 people, mostly in RV’s, converge on this sleepy little desert town, located just 20 miles east of the California border on Interstate 10, for the rock, gem and mineral shows, plus numerous flea markets and the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show. This phenomenon started over 40 years ago and is now billed as “The Largest Gathering Of RVers in the World”...



Hobby, Craft & Gem Show



In 1997, a second show was christened in Quartzsite. This new show, while on a much smaller scale than the GIANT  RV show, has grown and now includes a 2-day classic car show over the weekend of this Wednesday through Sunday, 5-day event. Often referred to as, "RV Show II", the Quartzsite Hobby, Craft & Gem Show has become another big draw during the show season at Quartzsite, Arizona, especially over the weekend of the  Quartzsite Rock & Roll Classic Car Show...



Rose RV Park is located in Quartzsite along Interstate 10 with easy off, easy on access. We love pets and encourage ATV’s. There is a lot to do in the area. Quartzsite is home to the world famous Gem and Mineral Show, The Rock and Roll Classic Car Show, and the Sports Vacation and RV Show. Tens of thousands of people flock to the area in winter to enjoy the warmth and activities unique to the region.



Surrounded by thousands of acres of BLM land, Quartzsite is perfect for ATV’s, Horses, Hiking, and Biking. Explore the countryside jeep trails, daytrip to Lake Havasu, visit the casino, or go to Yuma and further on to Mexico, or just kick around Gold country looking for that three-pound nugget.

Tyson's Well Stage Station Museum.

Operated by the Quartzsite Historical Society, Inc.



The original adobe stage station was built in 1866 by Charley Tyson at its present location. It was an important way station on the California-Arizona line because of excellent water and grass for the horses. Miners and freighters, hauling mining equipment and military supplies from the river port at Ehrenberg, to the Territorial Capital at Prescott, also stopped here. Accommodations were primitive at best.



The Quartzsite Historical Society opened Tyson's Well Museum in February 1980, after extensive restoration work. The original structurally sound walls were retained and others were rebuilt. A shell of stabilized adobe brick was built around the original walls to protect them. Artifacts were gathered from interested citizens, as well as photographs and old mining equipment. When the building was finished, these articles were placed inside as well as outside the building.. The dirt floor in one of the rooms was maintained for authenticity. The ceiling of the main room consists of saguaro ribs. And the original fireplace is still in use during the winter. Outside in the yard is the original assay shack from the Mariquita Mine, which offers a peek into the everyday life of the miners. Also, in the yard is the handiwork of Walter Barrett. A little village of cement and stone houses built during his retirement and donated to the museum. Just to the west of the Museum are the ruins of the Oasis Hotel, this is our next restoration project, with fundraising currently underway.

Recycling aluminum cans, yard sales, bazaars, slide shows, membership dues, book sales and donations raised money for the restorations.

Fundraisers continue during the months the museum is open.

Any mention of Arizona and Snowbirds would be incomplete without mentioning Quartzsite, a tiny town on I-10 just 20 miles east of the California state line (Colorado River). Although it’s mostly a truck stop in the summer, Quartzsite is the best example of snowbird flight and its mercantile impact. Every winter hundreds of thousands of Snowbirds in RVs descend upon Quartzsite, with most of them camped on Bureau of Land Development (BLM) land in the desert surrounding the town. More than 100,000 recreational vehicles are spread out over 70 square miles. National Geographic has described Quartzsite as “the world’s largest parking lot”.

Often described as “$400,000 motorhomes towing $40,000 SUVs looking for FREE camping,” Quartzsite has been a rockhound’s paradise since the 1960s.

For many Snowbirds from Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest, winter means a migration to Arizona.



As a winter destination, there are few places more inviting than the Grand Canyon State.

Like many of the other western states, Arizona is a land of paradoxes. Deep canyons give way to rugged mountains. Ponderosa pine forests melt into arid deserts. Native American reservations dot a state with major metropolitan areas like Phoenix and Tucson. Oh, and did I mention the natural wonders scattered throughout the state?

Yes, Arizona has much to offer the RVing Snowbird.

Arizona is a Snowbird destination like no other. From eroded red rock formations to large urban centers, from the Grand Canyon’s stunning vistas to small mountain towns, from Old West legends to Native American and Mexican culture, and from professional sporting events to world-class golf—Arizona has it all!

Balmy weather in Arizona when the snow flies up north is the primary reason Snowbirds head to the Copper State is such large numbers, but the weather is not consistently warm in all regions of the state.

Snowbird roosts



Snowbird roosts are centered in the Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma areas. These cities are magnets for Snowbirds, and RV parks have responded with highly organized activities and services.



Phoenix area

The largest concentration of Snowbirds is found in the Phoenix area, often referred to as The Valley of the Sun.





This is where Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Sun City, Carefree, Tempe, Paradise Valley, Queen Creek, Peoria, Apache Junction, and numerous other cities are found.

Hi Jolly Monument, Arizona

Hadji Ali (Hi Jolly) came from his native Syria as a camel driver after Naval Lieutenant Edward Fitzgerald Beale convinced Secretary of War Jefferson Davis to authorize the formation of the Camel Military Corps in 1853. The monument marks Hi Jolly's gravesite.

OLD MINING DAYS

The "ARRASTRA" was used to grind small pieces of ore by using a very large boulder on the inside perimeter that was pulled by mules or donkeys around the outside perimeter. The hub in the center of the ARRASTRA has shafts that allows ropes, rods, cables to be hooked up. This Arrastra was found in the Harquahala Mtns in pristine condition near an old cabin and mine shaft.

 

TREASURES OF OUTBACK

This Gila Monster was captured by photo just a few miles south of Salome off Harquahala Mine Road on open BLM land. There are thousand of acres of open public land to explore and enjoy in the Arizona Outback

GEOGlyph

The fisherman is an intaglio (geoglyph or earth figure), a large figure created in the soil by Indians many many years ago.

Visit the site of this protected giant on the scenic drive along Plomosa Road, between Bouse and Quartzsite.

The scenery and views on this drive are so spectacular, you will want to turn around and go back, just to make sure that you didn't miss anything.
